For initial home visits keep the kids at home
Since this blog is not about horror stories I will not endeavour to recount some of the stupid, ignorant, and just plain awful circumstances that can happen while visiting homes with children in tow. I tell all my clients to keep the little darlings home for the initial visits.
Once they have narrowed their search down to two or three possibilities then that would be the time to have the children come and get involved in the viewings and give their 'opinions' assuming they are old enough to speak.
The stress of buying a house is already present. Trying to visit homes with rambunctious kids may mean a mental breakdown for the parents and or agent or jail time (I'm half joking). Sometimes cute and quiet little Johnny likes to pick up things and put them in his pocket and mom and dad have no clue. However, after their visits there's a knock on their door. Holy cow its the police. There's been a robbery at one of the homes they visited today. You see where I'm going with this.
Do everyone a favour and keep the apple of your eye at home eating apples. I guaranty he will be much happier doing something he prefers then being yelled at with 'stay here', 'don't touch that', 'that's not yours put it back'. Actually, if I recall, it was usually the agent doing the loud talking.
Also, if the vendor is present for the visits I can tell you right now they are not impressed when some of the parents arrive with children to visit their home and have no control over them. Its only good common sense.
